133 - New York City DEP Water Treatment Plant

133 - New York City DEP Water Treatment Plant

Location: Jamaica, NY

Products:PrepLESS Primer™ and LeadLock

The Challenge: This Water Treatment Plant has Stood Vacant for Twenty Years or Longer. It is Now Being Used to Generate Clean Treated Water from the Ground Water Supply Under Jamaica, NY. The Exterior of the Building Housing the Water Treatment Equipment Had Been Painted with “Red-Lead-Based Paint” (RLBP). The Industrial Hygienists recommended that the Outside of the Building Be Refurbished to Eliminate Lead Hazard Risks. The City Needed an Answer, and Fast. The DEP Suggested In-Place Management of Lead-Based Paint as a Viable Option.

Results: LeadLock was Recommended to the DEP Through the Site Contractor, Innovative Recycling Technologies, a Certified Applicator of GLOBAL Encasement’s Products. GLOBAL Encasement Had All the Product Testing and Approvals Needed, Along with Completed Projects Close at Hand to Look at, Such as The Historic Charles Broadway Rouss Building and 90 Maiden Lane in Manhattan.

A System was Designed Using PrepLESS Primer and LeadLock Coatings to Lock the RLBP Back onto the Substrate. LeadLock Creates a Waterproof Seal that Prevents the Lead from Leeching Through. LeadLock Coatings Can Be Tinted Any Color and in This Case, “Optic Yellow” and “Bolt Brown” Were Chosen. Not Only Do These Coatings Last 20 Years, They Can Also Save as Much as 80% Over the Cost of Lead Removal and Disposal.
